Can a digital library in Notion be as cozy and inviting as a good reading nook? I think so!

This dashboard is for the book worms. The Notion Nerds who can’t get enough of a good book…so much so, in fact, that they want a digital bookshelf to relive the thoughts, the questions, the life altering moments of a really, really good book.

When I was putting together this template, my main goal was to cultivate that classic reading energy but in digital format. I wanted to create a process that made me feel the same inspiration reflecting on books as I feel when I’m reading them.

It’s all about the ambiance… a distraction free space. Soft tones and clean lines; big picture with focus. Nothing between me and the journal except a flowing stream of consciousness.

I’ve always loved reading but have never taken a good look at what I’ve read, or what meaning I’ve made of it all. While developing this template, it was so inspiring to notice for the first time that I’d read several books over the last few months. Through skimming back through their pages, I was able to find & share quotes that left such a lasting impression.

Early on in the process, it was clear that I needed a few key databases:

  1. Bookshelf — current, upcoming, and finished books
  2. Word Bank — words that stumped me cause why not?!
  3. Quotes — those lasting nuggets of insight
  4. Authors — alphabetically organized, perfect for seeing which authors I keep going back to
  5. Bookclub — especially this year, I’ve really loved taking the time to chat with friends about our favourite reads
  6. Reading Year — a quick glance at your reading over the years!

With a little bit of Notion database magic, I suddenly had the coziest, living, digital bookshelf this bookworm could have ever imagined! Template available here!

Happy Reading :)
